Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore

“Queen of underground cinema” Sarah Jacobson’s lone feature-length film, Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore is THE essential 1990s riot grrrl b-movie sex ed flick. After an awful, uncomfortable first time, Mary Jane starts polling her movie theater coworkers about their own messy sex experiences. In the process, the film offers a sincere exploration of what virginity, pleasure, and sexuality mean to young women coming of age in a patriarchal culture that doesn’t prioritize their own comforts and needs. It’s also a celebration of being young, learning about yourself and the world through the haze of bad beer, bad jobs, and hanging out with your fellow slacker coworkers.

Experience it in its original format, from a 16mm print from Canyon Cinema.

This screening is organized with the support of Dylan Pierce.

Free drinks and snacks will be served.

Doors at Glitterbox Theater open at 7:30, the film starts at 8:00.
