Maya Deren on 16mm

We celebrate legendary experimental filmmaker Maya Deren’s 106th birthday (approximately) by presenting her movies on her format of choice: 16mm film. Featured is her landmark first film, Meshes of the Afternoon (co-directed with Alexander Hammid), which has recently moved further up the Sight & Sound once-in-a-decade list of all-time greatest films, to number sixteen.

Also included are other Deren dreams: At Land, A Study in Choreography for Camera, shot-in-Pittsburgh outtakes from Ritual in Transfigured Time… plus a mystery film!

Doors open at 7:30. Movies start at 8:00. We’ll cut the cake afterwards!
